Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about using Switchboard, organized by topic with quick answers.

About Switchboard

What is Switchboard?

Switchboard is one interface for every AI model. Your teams reach frontier models from multiple providers through a single app, while administrators get routing, per-team budgets, and cost governance built in.

Every request is attributed to a person and a team, so spend is always visible and always under policy.

Who is Switchboard for?

Organizations that want their teams to use the best AI models without losing control of spend, data governance, or which models are allowed. Administrators configure the guardrails; employees get a fast, unified chat and Office experience.

How is Switchboard different from using a provider directly?

Going direct to one provider locks you to that provider's models and gives you little central control. Switchboard sits in front of many providers, routes each request to an appropriate model, enforces your budgets and model allowlists, and reports spend per team across all of them, in one place.

Pricing & billing

How does pricing work?

Switchboard charges a per-seat platform fee. Model token costs are passed through at the provider's own rates with no markup, metered per request and attributed to the team that incurred them.

Do you mark up model token costs?

No. Token costs are passed through at provider rates. You pay the platform fee for the governance, routing, and visibility Switchboard provides; the underlying model usage is billed at cost.

Security & governance

Do you train models on our data?

No. Switchboard does not use your prompts or content to train models, and it surfaces each provider's own training practices so your administrators can make informed decisions about which models to enable.

How do we control which models employees can use?

Administrators set model allowlists and can block any provider or model that does not meet your requirements. Each model surfaces its data residency, retention, training practices, and certifications, so governance decisions are informed rather than assumed.

Does Switchboard work inside Excel, Word, and PowerPoint?

Yes. Switchboard provides native task-pane add-ins for Excel, Word, and PowerPoint alongside the web app, so teams can use governed AI directly in the documents they already work in.
